As the sun rose just outside of Baltimore, MD, the bride and groom’s hotel rooms were abuzz with excitement. In one room, our talented wedding videographer, Alex, was capturing Manny, who was surrounded by his family and friends in an atmosphere of joy and celebration. Laughter echoed through the space as loved ones, in Greek wedding tradition, took turns helping him dress for the big day. The room was filled with music played by Manny’s father and brother, infusing the moments with lively energy.
The bride, Katerina, was getting ready in her own room just a few doors down. I was filming in the space that felt intimate and warm, as Katerina’s bridesmaids and family worked to ensure every detail was perfect for the day.
In the hours leading up to the ceremony, the separate preparations of Katerina and Manny set the stage for a wedding day filled with love, unity, and the coming together of two families.
The moment had arrived. Friends and family gathered at the magnificent St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cockeysville, Maryland to view Katerina and Manny exchange vows in a ceremony steeped in Greek Orthodox tradition.
In the presence of their loved ones, Katerina and Manny stood side by side. Our videographer Alex, was positioned perfectly to be able to capture the expressions of the bride and groom, their eyes often locked in excitement.
The ancient traditions, such as the crowning of the bride and groom with the classic Greek wreaths, the swapping of the rings by the koumbari and koumbara (similar to the Best Man and Maid of Honor), and the bride and groom being led in a circle around the altar, all intertwined with the couple’s modern love story, creating a ceremony that was as timeless as it was personal.
Following the wedding ceremony, the celebration continued at Martin’s Valley Mansion in Cockeysville, Maryland. Our job as wedding videographers was made easy with so much space to move in the expansive reception hall. The spirit of Greek culture then set the stage for an unforgettable evening of fun.
As they embarked on their first dance, the couple’s friends and family showered them in tradition with dollar bills, hugs, and kisses, symbolizing their love and well wishes.
After several heartfelt and joyful speeches, the lively circle dance, known as “Kalamatianó,” took center stage. Everyone linked arms, forming a spirited chain with even the band joining in, blurring the line between performers and guests.
The reception was a perfect testament to the love, joy, and vibrant spirit that characterized Katerina and Manny’s union. As the night unfolded, the happiness and camaraderie among the guests were palpable, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who attended.
We felt so lucky to be able to be able to capture these special moments for Katerina and Manny’s wedding video!
